This series moves beyond the church walls to right where your kids live. Kids will grow closer to God and become better servants as they take on the 40-day challenge to: pray, read, serve, give, share, and praise!
_______
“In the same way, let your light shine in front of others. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will bring praise to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (NIrV)
1. Pray – Staying connected to God should be the foundation of our lives. With the Lord's Prayer, Jesus gave us a guide on how to talk to God. Matthew 6:5-13, Prayer
CHALLENGE Day 1 – 7: Kids will commit to pray for 10 minutes every day. At least 5 of those minutes will be in silence as kids listen and try to hear what God is speaking to them.
2. Read – When Jesus was tempted by Satan, he was able to stay strong using Scripture. Kids will learn and experience the Word of God as a powerful weapon. Matthew 4:1:11, The Temptation of Jesus
CHALLENGE Day 8 – 14: Kids will commit to read (or have read to them) one chapter of the Book of John every day and seek to understand something that God is saying to them through the reading.
3. Serve – Serving is a great way to show other people the love of God. We must strive to serve others as if we were serving Jesus himself. Matthew 25:31-46, The Sheep and The Goats
CHALLENGE Day 15 – 21: Kids will commit to serve each day. They can serve their parents by doing chores without being asked. They can serve their teachers by helping after class. They can serve their friends by helping wherever they see a need.
4. Give – We may not have much to give, but Jesus showed us that if we give with a joyful heart, whatever we give is important. Mark 12:41-44, The Widow's Offering
CHALLENGE Day 22 – 28: Kids will commit to give to God in some way every day this week – through money, through stuff, through time, through talents, etc.
5. Share – God wants everyone to know Him, but the only way they will hear about Jesus is if someone shares Him with them. Acts 8:26-39, Philip and the Ethiopian
CHALLENGE Day 29 – 35: Kids will commit to either tell one new person about Jesus or invite one friend to church.
6. Praise – Whatever our circumstances, we can offer God praise for how good He is and the great things He has done. Acts 16:22-34, Paul and Silas in Jail
CHALLENGE Day 36 – 40: Kids will commit to set aside 10 minutes each day to praise God. They can praise Him with singing. They can keep a journal to record God's goodness. They can create pieces of art dedicated to God. Kids should look back at this 40-day journey and celebrate all that God has done.
