12 Page pamphlet published to teach Tamil to elementary schools in Sri Lanka. The pages contain 3 columns of vocabulary in the Tamil alphabet. The text is printed to teach reading in increasing difficulty, starting with single syllable words, followed by two syllable words and lastly longer, more complicated words.
Near fine condition - in Original wrappers. Primers and elementary school works such as this were well used so seldom survive intact.
With colophon stating that the text was printed "By the American Mission Press, Jaffna 1835)
The American Mission Press was founded in Jaffna in 1815, and is one of the earliest Western Presses in Sri Lanka. The press produced primers, religious tracts, Schoolbooks, grammars and Dictionaries. Jaffna, alongside Chennai (Madras), was one of the most important early Tamil-language presses.
