We sometimes forget how important religion was in people’s daily lives in the 17th century. Daily prayer was important and people were also acutely aware of their mortality. This work was one of the most important devotional Anglican prayer books of the early modern era. First published after the English civil war (c1645), it would run through multiple editions. The book discussed how to live through daily prayer, work and virtue, and how to prepare for death and the judgement day.

This is a particularly fine copy - red ruled, gilt edge, and bound in fine gold tooled contemporary black calf. Some wear to upper spine but generally excellent. Internally clean with only a few marks here and there.

The original owner was a Mary Bramston (signature) and it was later owned by the Barons Osborn in Bedfordshire (Bookplate)
