The Koru, used in Māori art as a symbol of creation, is a spiral design inspired by the unfurling of a New Zealand fern frond. The circular shape infers the perpetual movement in life, with the inward spiral suggesting a return to the beginning...it's roots back in nature.
A symbol of new life, personal growth, harmony and strength, the Koru - (meaning loop or coil in Māori culture) conveys evolution in life, while life also stays the same.

What I love about the Koru is it's simple design and similarity to Celtic spiral designs and both connections to nature, growth and the full cycle of life.

The Spiral in Celtic art represents the use of nature's energy-a growth pattern that protects life and sustains it. It also represents the consciousness of nature. Beginning at the centre, growing and expanding outwards. Creation, life, rebirth. 

There are innumerable examples of the spiral shape in nature, plants- such as the fern and shells with the sea snail Nautilus being one of the most enchanting spiral manifestations.
