A fine 18th century French period Louis XVI armoire, circa 1770s, handcrafted of walnut by master artisans in Lyon, the capital city in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region that is world renowned for its superior production of armoires. Having a moulded crown sitting atop a frieze adorned with a simple rectangular carved and raised panel above a pair of carved, raised panel doors with bookmatched walnut fronts separated by a fixed fluted center stile, all flanked by fluted half-round columns. The doors to this large Lyonnaise armoire open to reveal a spacious interior with three sturdy shelves and two drawers below the bottom shelf. A full-width drawer with typical neoclassical drop bail brass handles is below the doors. Raised on toupie feet. The lustrous French polish and beautiful, rich patina accents the handsome design of this antique armoire while the clean straight lines allow the armoire to blend seamlessly into a modern or traditional setting.
