Keim Silan 100 is a solvent free, silane-based water repellent for use on all mineral substrates, particularly suitable for concrete, where carbonation resistance is required.

Concrete carbonation is caused by carbon dioxide in the environment reacting with the calcium hydroxide in the cement paste, causing the pH to drop to a point where reinforcing steel can start to erode. The speed of this process is determined by the quality of the concrete.

Preparation & Application

Substrate Preparation
All loose, flaking and unstable material must be identified and then thoroughly removed, all surfaces must be thoroughly washed down with clean cold water to remove all surface dirt and dust. When all surfaces are clean, sound, wind dry, dust free and free from all surface contaminants, decoration using Keim Mineral Paints may proceed.

Application
Keim Silan 100 should be applied as two wet-on-wet flood coats or as a single flood coat, by brush or low-pressure spray. If required, within a period of up to twelve hours, and these times are critical, the first coat of Keim Mineral Paints must be applied. Non-absorbent surfaces cannot be treated with Keim Silan 100. Ambient and substrate temperature above 5°C and below 30°C. Do not apply in direct sunlight or onto sun-heated surfaces, nor if it is raining or if there is an immediate likelihood of rain.
